Our t-shirt

Why we chose the
Stanley/Stella Creator 2.0

We spent a lot of time hunting for the right t-shirt. Not just one that looked good, but one that felt good, printed beautifully, and didn't make us feel guilty about putting it on. After much deliberation (and quite a few samples), the Stanley/Stella Creator 2.0 won, and it wasn't particularly close.

The specs

The facts, for the detail-lovers

It's a unisex premium t-shirt made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton, knitted into a single jersey at 185 g/m² — that's the sweet spot between "substantial" and "I can actually wear this in August". Everything else flows from that foundation.

Material

100% organic cotton

Weight

185 g/m²

Fit

Medium / unisex

Construction

Single jersey, side seams

Neck

Crew neck, wider rib

Finish

Combed, ring-spun

The feel

Soft, but not suspiciously soft

The Creator 2.0 uses compact ringspun yarn — a process that combs and tightens the cotton fibres before spinning, removing the short, scratchy ones that make cheap t-shirts feel like wearing a potato sack. The result is a surface that's genuinely smooth, holds its shape after washing, and doesn't go thin and see-through after six trips through the tumble dryer.

"Side seams mean no twisting. A wider collar rib means it doesn't lose its shape by lunchtime. These might sound like small things. They are not small things."

The medium fit sits between boxy and fitted — it works on pretty much everyone, which is rather the point of a unisex design. Sleeves are set-in and slightly longer than the industry average, which means no accidental crop-top moments when you reach for something on a high shelf.

The print

Made to carry good design

A beautiful design deserves a surface worthy of it. The Creator 2.0's smooth, combed cotton surface is specifically suited to direct-to-garment (DTG) printing, which means the colours land crisp and vibrant, not washed out or blurry. Dark inks on dark shirts, pale washes on light ones — it all behaves.

  • Smooth surface for sharp, detailed print reproduction
  • Tear-away label — so your shirt looks like yours, not a blank
  • Colours stay vibrant wash after wash (turn it inside out, please)
  • Available across a wide range of colours — not just black and white

The conscience

Good for you. Good for the planet. (We know, we know.)

We know "sustainable" has become a word that's been rubbed so smooth it barely means anything anymore. So here are the actual specifics. Stanley/Stella are certified to the gills — and these aren't bought badges, they're audited standards that require full supply chain traceability, from the cotton seed to the finished garment.

Stanley/Stella have also committed to cutting their carbon emissions by 30% across their entire value chain by 2030 — partnering with the farms, gins, and factories in their supply chain to actually make it happen, rather than just offsetting their way to a cleaner-looking graph.

The cotton is organic, which means no synthetic pesticides, no GMO seeds, and farming practices that are kinder to soil, water, and the people doing the growing. The packaging is plastic-free. And in 2024, they recycled 226 tonnes of cotton fabric cutting waste back into new yarn. That last one is quietly remarkable.

The verdict

A t-shirt you'll actually want to keep

There are cheaper blanks. There are fancier ones too. The Creator 2.0 sits in the place we wanted to be: genuinely high quality, ethically made, prints beautifully, wears well, and doesn't cost so much that buying one feels like a financial decision. It's the right shirt for what Dotty Cotton is trying to do - and we think, once you've worn one, you'll agree.
